We have always tried to be environmentally responsible. We recycle our bottles and cans, we take public transport, we breed chickens, we go into branches of Dixons and switch off the televisions when no-one is watching them. Every little helps.

And so, last week’s publication of the brand new edition of London by London: the insiders’ guide left us with something of a dilemma. What to do with the last 1000 or so copies of the first edition that bookshops have returned to make room for the new edition?

We could always burn them, Fahrenheit 451-style. But that would be environmentally unsound, and would have echoes of Nazism. We could pulp them. But that would be a tragic waste, especially as the book is packed full of the collected knowledge of thousands of Londoners on hundreds of subjects, including the famous ‘Sinners and Winners Man’ and the location of London’s ultimate date restaurant.

If only there was some way of using the books to make London a better place.

And then it hit us. Boom! Let’s have an LbL absolutely-completely-non-judgemental Dan Brown Commuter Book Amnesty!
