My head still hurts after Saturday, thanks for asking.
So, yes, another day, another meeting. But today’s one was particularly enjoyable. Remember the other month when we went to New York and we mentioned...
‘...a very special, and entirely secret meeting with some very special and entirely secretive people who are in some way connected to television. They know who they are. And maybe soon, if deals are done, you will too.’
...?
Yes? Well, the time has come to lift the veil of secrecy. The secret meeting was with Pretty Matches, the HBO-backed production company set up by none other than Sarah Jessica Parker and run by two of our favourite American people, Alison Benson and Sara Glasser-Havens.
In September Heather and I visited their incredible scoop-shaped office building in New York, and today Alison visited our slightly-less-tremendous box-shaped office in London’s sunny Victoria.
Over an enjoyable-but-strangely-noisy lunch in that tiny Italian restaurant next to Scotland Yard, we talked about television, pick-up artists, box-sets, taboos, Capitol sluts and much more. The result? TFP and PM have established a very exciting first-look agreement whereby Pretty Matches have first refusal on the TV/FILM rights all of our new titles. Good news for us. Good news for them. Good news for our authors. Good news for ba.com. Everyone’s a winner.
Meanwhile, this morning Holy Moly! got its first proper UK review, in The Times...
‘The swearing is rampant, jubilant and out of control. All in all, this is a harsh, brutish, insensitive and horribly biased publication. And it’s really funny... if you want a guide to popular culture as it is today, get a copy.’
Hurrah!
