A couple of days of blogging silence because, frankly, there’s not been much to say.
After a hectic few days of sightseeing, drinking and trying to plough through work, it’s was time to take a couple of days to recharge my batteries. Not least because in a few short days, half of London is arriving in town for what promises to be a fascinating, exhausting and liver-destroying adventure.
So for the last couple of days I’ve been doing relaxing things. Yesterday my official tour guide, Eris, bought the West Wing season six box set and we had something of a DVD-on-laptop marathon. For reasons too - something - to blog, the West Wing is a show that always brings back memories - mostly incredibly fond, but also - yunno - sad, so it was a bit odd to be watching it thousands of miles from home, but it was fun nonetheless.
We also dropped by a sweet - sorry - candy shop - sorry - store where they sell British confectionery. Bountys, Kit-Kats and Yorkies abounded. And all for just $3 a pop. I balked at first and then realised that that’s about 30p.
I told you there wasn’t much to say.
Today we began with tea in the park before going book shopping. I finally made it to the famous former beat stomping ground that is City Lights, but - egotist that I am - the highlight of my day came during a casual browse through Borders at Union Square.
Walking past the Internet section, I was, when I noticed it. On the end of an aisle, no less. A slightly larger format, and a different stock for the cover from the UK edition - but unmistakable none the less...
...well, gosh.
And then, by a strange coincidence, returning to my hotel and firing up GMail, the Google News alert popped up in my inbox... a review of the self-same book, written today. The first in months.
Verily it’s a small world, and today at least I feel very comfortable in it. Which usually means things are about to get very, very weird.
They’re predicting earthquakes.
